Ilorin: The Kwara State Government, in partnership with the Society for Family Health (SFH), has inaugurated an integrated health facility flip-chart in Ilorin. This initiative is developed to enhance health service uptake across the state and improve community health education outcomes.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the integrated health flip-chart is a visual teaching tool intended for use by health workers, community volunteers, and NGOs. It is designed to deliver health messages effectively during outreaches, clinic sessions, and house-to-house visits. Dr. Amina El-Imam, the Kwara Commissioner for Health, emphasized the program’s focus on improving health communication and fostering behavioral change within communities. Represented by Dr. Oluwatosin Fakayode, El-Imam highlighted the tool’s capacity to reshape the health system in the state and improve health outcomes.
El-Imam further stated that State Mobilisation Officers (SMOs) across all local government areas would utilize the flip-chart for standardized healthcare promotion activities at both community and facility levels. The flip-chart aims to deliver consistent, accurate, and engaging health messages during various community and household interactions. She reinforced that health promotion is crucial for effective public health interventions, as it significantly influences people’s behavior towards healthcare.
The Commissioner expressed optimism that the initiative would enhance the uptake of essential maternal and child health services, including antenatal care, safe delivery, immunization, and more. This tool is expected to strengthen preventive healthcare delivery and improve health-seeking behavior among residents, whether in rural or urban settings.
Dr. Kafayat Kofo, the Reproductive Health Coordinator at the Kwara Ministry of Health, noted that the flip-chart addresses reproductive, maternal, newborn, adolescent health services, and non-communicable diseases. It is designed as a communication tool to assist health workers in effectively delivering key health messages.
Mr. Adedayo Adedotun, the Management Information Officer of SFH, praised the state government for the development and adoption of this critical health communication tool. He asserted that the initiative would bolster service delivery and standardize counseling across health facilities and communities, thereby enhancing the consistency of health education and outreach programs throughout the state.
