Abuja: The Interim National Chairman of the Labour Party, Sen. Nenadi Usman, announced the party’s commitment to promoting social justice and equal opportunities for Nigerians during the unveiling of its new Online Registration Portal.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Usman emphasized that the Labour Party has learned from past electoral experiences and aims to overcome previous challenges through electronic registration. The initiative is designed to engage grassroots members and union affiliates, thereby enhancing transparency and accountability within the party.
Usman assured that the Labour Party would adhere to the timelines outlined in the Electoral Act, 2026, by submitting its digital membership register to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). She highlighted the opportunity this provides for Nigerians both domestically and abroad to register as party members without the need to visit physical offices. Registrants will be able to choose their home states, ensuring accurate and verifiable membership records, and will have the ability to register and download their membership cards from any location.
Technical issues with the registration portal have been resolved, Usman noted, and the service is free of charge. She encouraged Nigerians to engage with the platform, complete their registration, and print their membership cards. The Labour Party aims to complete the registration process promptly to prepare for the 2027 elections, focusing on grassroots mobilization and strengthening the party’s infrastructure nationwide.
Usman assured that the portal incorporates security features to guard against cyber attacks. Addressing concerns about internal divisions, Comrade Lawson Osagie, a member of the Board of Trustees, reaffirmed that there is no faction within the Labour Party.
