Abuja: The Commissioner for Youths and Social Development, Mr. Mobolaji Ogunlende, has announced the introduction of automated childcare services aimed at enhancing child welfare administration for orphanage homes across Lagos. This announcement was made at the 2026 stakeholders’ meeting focused on adoption, guardianship, and fostering matters in Lagos State, which took place on Tuesday in Ikeja.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the commissioner explained that the automated childcare services are expected to enhance efficiency, accountability, transparency, record management, monitoring, inter-agency coordination, and public confidence in child welfare administration. Mr. Ogunlende emphasized the transformative impact digitalization would have, stating, “You can imagine the transformation that will take place with digitalisation. Lagos state will always set the pace for others.”
Mr. Silas Gyang, Country Manager of Both Ends Believing (BEB), highlighted the significance of the partnership between BEB and Lagos State in fostering effective childcare service delivery. He noted that the collaboration would introduce software designed to automate the operations of home operators across Lagos State. This tool aims to turn orphanage homes into child placement centers while promoting a culture of adoption within the homes and the state.
Gyang further explained that the software would aid in preparing adult children for success as they age out of orphanages and provide the government with tools for making informed, data-based decisions for child welfare. The system is designed to make the child welfare system more seamless and reduce the risk of information loss due to human or natural causes. It ensures that every child is visible and their data actionable, enabling the government to better monitor orphanages, combat trafficking, and identify any malpractices within the homes.
He advocated for increased partnerships to improve service delivery, emphasizing the importance of collaboration in achieving improved outcomes for child welfare in Lagos.
