Lagos: Mr Adewale Adedeji, a member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, marked his birthday by extending support to 500 widows with food items and a N10 million donation in Ifako-Ijaiye, Lagos. The event, held on Monday, was part of the sixth edition of the Adewale Temitope Adedeji Widows Empowerment Initiative. This initiative is part of Adedeji’s efforts to address the emotional and financial challenges faced by widows in the community.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Adedeji explained that the initiative is a reflection of his understanding of the burdens carried by widows after losing their husbands. He emphasized the dual responsibility of grieving and sustaining their families under difficult circumstances. The lawmaker described the programme as a continuation of his commitment to supporting vulnerable residents in the constituency and pledged to expand the initiative to reach more beneficiaries in future editions.
Adedeji stressed that the initiative aims to restore hope and dignity, going beyond mere food or financial support. He reiterated his belief in compassionate governance as central to his role in the Lagos State House of Assembly, assuring beneficiaries of his continued support for women and other vulnerable groups in the area.
The gesture was well-received by beneficiaries, All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders, and community members, who commended Adedeji for his impactful representation and grassroots development. Traditional ruler, Oba Iginla Akinbami, the Olu of Ishaga, praised Adedeji’s consistency and community support, noting the visible positive changes in the community.
APC Deputy Chairman in Ifako-Ijaiye, Mr Gbenga Agoye, described Adedeji as a reliable representative, expressing satisfaction with the lawmaker’s contributions to the constituency. Agoye also encouraged residents to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Beneficiary Mrs Oluwagbemi Oyebisi expressed gratitude for the support, highlighting the increased assistance compared to previous years. Another beneficiary, Afolabi Afolayan, lauded Adedeji as a compassionate leader dedicated to community welfare, vowing continued support for his initiatives.
NAN reports that over 200 other constituents also received cash gifts and food items during the celebration, with beneficiaries offering prayers for the lawmaker’s continued success and longevity.
