Post: Lagos Poultry Farmers Promise Price Drop Ahead of Yuletide

Lagos: The Poultry Association of Nigeria (PAN), Lagos State Chapter, has assured residents of a drop in the price of poultry produce following the intervention of the Lagos State Government ‘Ounje Eko’ Phase 2 Farmers’ Subsidy Programme. PAN Vice-President and Chairman of the Aiyedoto Poultry Farmers Settlement, Mr. Foluso Adams, shared this information in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, the Lagos State Ministry of Agriculture and Food Systems recently announced the commencement of Phase II of the Ounje Eko programme to reduce food prices ahead of the yuletide. Mr. Adams noted that the subsidy would significantly aid local farmers and lead to a reduction in the price of poultry produce. The anticipated price drop for crates of eggs is from N5,500 and N6,000 to approximately N5,100 and N5,300.

Mr. Adams highlighted that not all farmers would benefit from the intervention due to the specific brand of feed being distributed. The subsidy is limited to the Animal Care brand, and some farmers use other brands. However, PAN has instructed its members to pass on the subsidy benefits to society by reducing prices. A formal agreement to this effect has been communicated. The materials are expected to start arriving on Wednesday, benefiting 50 farmers from their settlement.

The vice-president also mentioned that other feed processors are reducing their prices to remain competitive in the market. This price reduction is expected to extend to the sales of chicken during the upcoming yuletide season, although discussions are still ongoing. Mr. Adams emphasized that if other states emulate the Lagos State Government’s initiative, the price of poultry produce could significantly decrease during the yuletide season.
