Abuja: Mr Peter Obi, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, has described the late Rev. Dr William Okoye as a rare spiritual leader whose legacy will endure. Obi shared these sentiments during a condolence visit to the cleric’s family in Abuja.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Rev. Dr William Okoye, who passed away peacefully on July 15, was a former Chaplain of the Aso Villa Chapel and the Founder/General Overseer of All Christians Fellowship Mission (ACFM). A statement from Rev. Godwin Tsee, on behalf of the mission’s Board of Trustees and National Executive Council, highlighted Okoye’s dedication to God and humanity.
Rev. Okoye served as Chaplain of the Aso Villa Chapel under the administrations of former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan. Obi expressed profound sadness at Okoye’s passing, referring to him as an elder brother and a distinguished servant of God. He praised the late cleric for his deep faith, sacrificial service, and commitment to integrity.
Obi noted that Rev. Okoye inspired countless individuals through his teachings, leadership, and personal example. He consistently encouraged people to embrace righteousness, hope, and purposeful living, leaving a lasting impact on his community and beyond.
The presidential candidate emphasized that Nigeria is in need of voices like Rev. Okoye’s, which unite, heal, and inspire justice, peace, and compassion. Obi called on Nigerians to honor the cleric’s legacy through selfless service and unwavering commitment to humanity.
In response, one of Rev. Okoye’s sons, Mr Victor Okoye, expressed the family’s gratitude for the support they have received. He acknowledged his father’s teachings on service to God and humanity, pledging to uphold his legacy of humility, compassion, and faith.
The late Rev. Okoye is survived by six children and nine grandchildren, including Victor Okoye, a journalist with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
