Demsa: The Archbishop of the Lutheran Church of Christ in Nigeria (LCCN), Most Rev. Musa Filibus, has urged political leaders in the country to intensify efforts toward promoting peace and security. He made the appeal at the opening of the LCCN 2026 National Annual Convention in Demsa Local Government Area of Adamawa.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the convention, themed ‘Go and Bear Fruit That Will Last’ (John 15:6), is being held from February 25 to March 1. The cleric noted that this gathering marks the 101st convention of the church since its establishment in 1925. The theme of the conference aims to challenge Christians to raise generations rooted in the fear of God and committed to bearing fruit beneficial to the church and society.
The Archbishop addressed the current state of the nation, emphasizing how some families have lost their loved ones to terrorism and banditry attacks, while others have been displaced or lost their livelihoods. While recognizing progress in the security situation, Filibus called on the government to do more to protect citizens, ensure justice, and promote peace.
Filibus also urged Christians to remain steadfast in prayer and embrace their role as peacemakers. He reminded them of Jesus’s call to pray, stay alert, and seek the peace and prosperity of their communities, citing Jeremiah 29:7 as a guiding principle. He emphasized that religious leaders must speak and act for peace, never justifying the killing of innocent people due to religious, ethnic, or political sentiments.
Rev. Amos Kiri, President of the United Church of Christ in Nigeria and Guest Speaker, echoed these sentiments, describing the message as a clarion call for Christians to live according to Christ’s teachings. Kiri highlighted the need for Christians to exhibit behaviors and conduct that align with Christ’s teachings, urging them to bear fruits worthy of emulation and to reassess their understanding of Christianity in today’s world.
