Lagos: Residents under the Lekki Estates and Residents Stakeholders Association (LERSA) engaged the leadership of Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) to address persistent electricity supply challenges within the Lekki corridor.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the engagement aimed at identifying key electricity distribution problems affecting the areas and exploring practical solutions to improve supply. The President of LERSA, Mr. Sulyman Bello, stated that the session was convened to address pressing power supply issues affecting the residents. Bello emphasized the need to focus on finding solutions rather than dwelling on past shortcomings, especially given the recent hike in petrol prices, which has made it difficult for residents to rely on petrol-powered generators.
The Chairman of LERSA Power Committee, Mr. Obi Isiuwa, highlighted that the meeting offered an opportunity for residents and the distribution company to review issues in detail and seek clarity on areas of concern. He mentioned that while some issues might require further consultations by the electricity company, others could be resolved in the short term. Isiuwa listed areas experiencing electricity supply challenges, including Joseph Avenue, Mohammed Yinka Bello Crescent, Sangotedo area, and several other locations.
Responding to the concerns, the Deputy Chief Executive Officer of EKEDC, Mr. Olumide Jerome, announced that the company had invested billions of naira towards improving electricity distribution and infrastructure within its network. Jerome assured residents of EKEDC’s commitment to distribute transformers as needed, commission new feeders, replace faulty panels, and complete ongoing projects. He also urged developers of high-rise structures and energy-intensive facilities to provide private transformers.
Mrs. Angela Ukhokhoakhe, Head of Projects Department at EKEDC, revealed that the company had completed around 38 electricity infrastructure projects since January 2025. These include the rehabilitation and commissioning of feeders, replacement of power transformers, and upgrading of substations. Ukhokhoakhe emphasized that these projects are part of EKEDC’s broader efforts to enhance electricity supply reliability across the Lekki axis.
