Beirut: “Loyalty to the Resistance” Bloc on Thursday called on the Lebanese authorities to seize what it described as a historic opportunity created by Iran’s support for Lebanon, while reiterating its opposition to direct negotiations with the Israeli enemy and urging the government to reject any concessions that could compromise national sovereignty.
According to National news agency – Lebanon, the parliamentary bloc emphasized the symbolic significance of Ashura as a representation of the triumph of truth over falsehood, justice over oppression, and resistance against tyranny. The bloc highlighted Ashura as a source of inspiration for the oppressed and freedom-seekers, embodying values such as sacrifice, perseverance, and commitment to righteous causes.
The bloc noted that this year’s Ashura coincides with ongoing struggles in Lebanon and Palestine against what it described as a brutal and criminal Zionist occupation, which it accused of genocide, ethnic cleansing, and crimes against humanity, supported by the United States and Western powers, amidst international complicity and Arab inaction.
The statement praised Iran for its steadfast support, asserting that the Islamic Republic has consistently stood by Lebanon and Palestine, portraying this support as a continuation of Tehran’s longstanding commitment to defending oppressed peoples.
The bloc expressed gratitude for Iran’s “historic and honorable” support, recognizing Iran’s willingness to risk its own security and prosperity in aid of Lebanon. It credited Iran with playing a significant role in compelling a ceasefire in Lebanon and contributing to a new regional balance of power.
In tribute to resistance fighters and their supporters, the bloc praised the sacrifices made in the confrontation with the Israeli enemy, emphasizing the values of courage and steadfastness inspired by Karbala.
The bloc called upon the Lebanese government to capitalize on Iranian support, which it claimed had secured a US-backed commitment to an imminent Israeli withdrawal from Lebanese territory. It criticized the government’s current approach, arguing it has led to concessions benefiting the enemy and deepened internal divisions.
Reiterating its opposition to direct negotiations with Israel, the bloc warned against arrangements that might compromise Lebanese sovereignty, specifically cautioning against proposals like “experimental zones” or conditional Israeli withdrawal.
The bloc insisted on the government’s demand for the immediate and complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from occupied Lebanese lands, the return of displaced residents, the release of prisoners, and an end to all forms of aggression against Lebanon. It stressed that these issues remain strictly internal Lebanese affairs, in which Israel has no role or legitimate interest.
