Katsina: Alhaji Dahiru Mangal, a philanthropist, has committed more than N87.5 million to sponsor free surgeries for vulnerable patients suffering from hernia and hydrocele in Katsina State. A member of the Mangal Foundation’s Board of Trustees, Mr. Hussaini Kabir, revealed this during a screening exercise for patients at the Katsina General Hospital.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Kabir explained that the intervention was carried out quarterly. He stated that in the first quarter, the foundation supported about 400 patients, spending N28 million. During the second quarter, 500 patients received treatment at a cost of N29.5 million. For the last quarter of 2025, approximately 900 patients have registered, with expectations of spending not less than N30 million.
Kabir highlighted that the foundation has been providing free surgeries and medical treatment every quarter since its establishment in 2013. The initiative benefits residents of Katsina metropolis and extends to rural communities and neighboring states, aiming to alleviate the financial burden of healthcare for individuals struggling to meet basic needs.
He appealed to other organizations and philanthropists to support similar humanitarian efforts, emphasizing the need for collective action to address healthcare challenges in underserved communities. Beneficiaries expressed gratitude for the initiative and urged the government, private organizations, and wealthy individuals to emulate such gestures. One of the beneficiaries, Malam Adamu Abubakar, shared his appreciation, noting he had lived with a hernia condition for a long time but could not afford surgery due to economic hardship.
