Abuja: The Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), retired Brig.-Gen. Buba Marwa, has called upon Nigerians to actively oppose the pop-culture trends that promote the abuse of illicit substances as an acceptable lifestyle. Marwa’s appeal came during the official launch of the NDLEA’s new radio station, Clean Beat 91.5FM, in Abuja.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Marwa urged stakeholders and responsible citizens to join the NDLEA in its War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) social advocacy initiative. He emphasized the urgency of this mission to protect the nation’s youth from the peril of normalizing drug abuse. Marwa highlighted the human stories behind drug abuse statistics, describing vulnerable teenagers, broken families, and brilliant minds in need of redirection. He stated that the new radio station aims to counter the toxic elements of pop culture by promoting a culture of sobriety, sharing recovery stories, and providing accurate, life-saving information.
Marwa warned that failing to address the narrative surrounding drug abuse could lead to catastrophic consequences. He described substance abuse as a multifaceted threat that undermines public health, economic productivity, and the future workforce. Despite these challenges, Marwa expressed optimism about the future, noting that the current efforts signify a significant paradigm shift and proactive innovation by the NDLEA.
The NDLEA chief described ‘Clean Beat 91.5 FM’ as a beacon of hope, reinforcing the message that a drug-free Nigeria is an achievable reality.
