The Nigerian Labour Congress Adamawa State Chapter has expressed gratitude to the Governor of the State, Ahmadu Fintiri for implementing the N70,000 minimum wage.
The Chairman Comrade Emmanuel Fashe while on an appreciation visit to the Governor in the government house, Yola with a delegation, reassured him of workers’ commitment to their duties
He described Governor Fintiri as the people’s Governor and friend of the labour union, who keeps to his promise.
‘Though it is not the first time the Governor is working towards bettering the lives of the workers of the state, this gesture at this point in time has made workers across the state jubilant’. Fashe noted
Governor Fintriri expressed satisfaction that the decision made the people happy especially the Labour Union that sacrificed a lot to see to the realization of government policies on the issue of the minimum wage.
‘There is no reason to delay the payment which has become a law, calling on the federal government to rejig its policies as the new N70,0
00 minimum wage is nothing to write home about especially with the current market reality’. He added
The Governor said the executive is working within the week to send its demand to the legislature to adjust the law binding the salaries of judiciary, accountant general office, state assembly workers and others so that they too will benefit from the N70,000 minimum wage by September.
He encouraged citizens to go into farming, restating his commitment to concentrate on concrete policies that can change lives and not put so much energy into sharing palliative that will not last for long.
He applauded the labour for the enabling environment granted the government to succeed, saying the cordial relationship is appreciated urging them to always count on the government.
