Moyamba: Hon. Minister of Gender and Children’s Affairs joined a delegation from the Government of Sierra Leone and the UN Country Team on a joint field visit to Moyamba, Kenema, and Mile 91. The goal was to assess ongoing initiatives on women’s empowerment, sustainable agriculture, renewable energy, and financial inclusion.
According to Sierra Leone News Agency, during the visit, the Minister directly engaged women farmers and community groups benefiting from UN-supported programmes. Beneficiaries shared how farming support, skills training, and empowerment initiatives have improved livelihoods, strengthened food production, and enhanced household resilience.
In a show of solidarity, the Minister actively participated in farming activities alongside women farmers, demonstrating her own farming skills and reaffirming agriculture as a pathway to women’s economic independence and sustainable development. She commended communities for adopting environmentally friendly practices and urged young women to engage in agriculture for self-reliance and national growth.
The Minister also stressed the importance of girls’ education, asking families to prioritize schooling. ‘The future is now in your hands,’ she told young girls, encouraging them to stay focused and ambitious.
The delegation further met with SEND Sierra Leone solar graduates to discuss renewable energy and skills development, and reviewed village savings and credit schemes that boost financial inclusion for women entrepreneurs.
Reaffirming the government’s commitment, the Minister highlighted continued collaboration with the UN Country Team and development partners to advance women’s rights, education, and inclusive sustainable development across Sierra Leone.
