Abuja: The Nigerian Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has affirmed the government’s determination to ensure the adequate protection of lives and property of the citizens. Tunji-Ojo gave this assurance during the decoration of the new Controller General of the Federal Fire Service in Abuja, urging all Service Chiefs of the agencies under the Ministry to consistently meet expectations.
According to Voice of Nigeria, the Minister further charged the newly appointed Controller General of the Federal Fire Service (FFS), Samuel Adeyemi Olumode, to lead with integrity, discipline, and a results-oriented approach, emphasizing that national safety is imperative. Olumode officially assumed his role on Wednesday, succeeding Engineer Abdulganiyu Jaji, who retired, thus marking a new chapter in the leadership of the nation’s fire service.
Dr. Tunji-Ojo, during the decoration ceremony, described Olumode’s appointment as both a call to service and a mandate to transform the Fire Service. He articulated the expectations from the new Controller General, emphasizing the need for evolution and leadership within the Fire Service.
The Minister warned against complacency and urged Olumode to instill discipline, enforce accountability, and ensure that the Service provides prompt and effective emergency responses. He advised the Controller General to remain focused, resist undue pressure, and prioritize national interests.
Olumode, in his acceptance speech, expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for the opportunity and committed to upholding public trust and meeting the expectations set for his office. He praised Dr. Tunji-Ojo’s visionary leadership, which he credited with creating a conducive environment for growth and reform within the Fire Service.
He outlined his priorities, which include modernizing the Service, improving emergency response times, and fostering a culture of discipline, efficiency, and public accountability. Olumode called for collaboration with officers and stakeholders to build a Service that Nigerians can be proud of.
Acknowledging the contributions of his predecessor, Abdulganiyu, and other stakeholders, Olumode promised to engage with all parties to ensure the Service becomes a model of efficiency, discipline, and public trust.
