Abuja: The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr. Nyesom Wike, has reiterated the Tinubu Administration’s commitment to creating employment opportunities for Nigerians through infrastructure development. Wike disclosed this while flagging off the construction of Arterial Road N20 (Solomon Lar Way) from the Arterial Road N5 (Obafemi Awolowo Way) to the Airport Expressway.
According to Voice of Nigeria, the Minister noted that the President’s support for the FCT Administration’s infrastructure drive, highlighted by the flag-off and commissioning of 16 key road projects, has created job opportunities for Nigerians. He also expressed gratitude to the President for his support. Wike emphasized that the number of ongoing projects in the FCT would engage numerous individuals, with 16 companies involved in these projects over 16 days.
The Minister further stressed that through infrastructure provision, President Tinubu is promoting employment. He thanked the President and Area Council Chairmen for their collaborative efforts and urged continued cooperation for progress. Wike assured that besides road infrastructure, sectors like health and education are also receiving attention, with the goal of making the FCT comparable to developed cities globally by the end of President Tinubu’s first term.
Wike assured Abuja residents of significant development, promising enhancements not only in the city but also in satellite towns, emphasizing the reconstruction of schools and attention to the health sector. He highlighted the importance of Arterial Road N20, awarded to Messrs. Gilmor Nigeria Limited, and its expected impact on property value, real estate investments, and quality of life for FCT residents.
The Minister pledged adequate funding for the project to ensure timely completion and encouraged the contractor to engage youths during construction. He called for support and cooperation from FCT residents. Nancy Sabanti Nathan, Acting Head of the FCTA Civil Service, stated that the road project would stimulate economic activities, attract investments, boost local businesses, and enhance commuter safety and convenience.
Richard Yunana Dauda, Acting Executive Secretary of FCDA, provided an overview of the project, highlighting its role in linking the city’s northern and southern parts, reducing traffic congestion, and featuring a dual carriageway, river bridges, and a dual bridge crossing rail lines. The project scope includes surface water drainage, water supply, street lighting, and telecommunication ducts.
Mr. Shay Goldhar, General Manager of Gilmor Engineering Services, publicly committed to the project’s timely completion, assuring that it would meet the highest quality standards in line with the FCT Administration’s vision and expectations of Abuja residents.
