Freetown: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation has formally received 15 protocol vehicles donated by the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China to support Sierra Leone’s preparations for the forthcoming ECOWAS Summit.
According to Sierra Leone News Agency, the handover ceremony, held in the Ministry Conference Room on the 7th of July, 2026, underscored the enduring friendship and strategic cooperation between Sierra Leone and China. The donation comes at a crucial moment as Sierra Leone prepares to host regional leaders, dignitaries, and delegations for an important Economic Community of West African States gathering.
Speaking at the ceremony, officials described the donation as a timely and meaningful contribution that will strengthen the country’s logistical readiness for the summit. The vehicles are expected to enhance transportation arrangements and help ensure the smooth and dignified reception of visiting heads of state and other high-level guests.

Receiving the vehicles on behalf of the Government of Sierra Leone, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Alhaji Timothy Musa Kabba, expressed profound appreciation to the Government and people of the People’s Republic of China for the generous support. The Minister described the donation as a clear demonstration of the strong bilateral ties built on mutual respect, cooperation, and shared development priorities.
He stated that the vehicles will play an important role in reinforcing Sierra Leone’s capacity to host the ECOWAS Summit successfully and in a
manner that reflects the nation’s dignity and the spirit of regional unity. He further commended the Chinese Embassy for its swift coordination and commitment in ensuring the timely delivery of the vehicles ahead of the summit.
The Minister also reaffirmed Sierra Leone’s commitment to deepening relations with China across key sectors, including trade, infrastructure, education, and health. He emphasized that the partnership between the two countries continues to yield meaningful benefits and remains an important pillar of Sierra Leone’s international cooperation efforts.
The ceremony concluded with the formal signing and presentation of handover documents, followed by an inspection of the vehicles by the Chinese Ambassador and the Minister.
