Lagos: Surulere Local Government in Lagos State has announced that the 2026 Heritage Pageant will commence a new journey to celebrate beauty, intelligence, culture, and leadership among young women in the area. Chairman of the council, Mr Bamidele Yusuf, revealed this during the fourth day of the pageant audition held at the council secretariat.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the pageant audition, which began earlier in the week, carries the theme: ‘Win Big Wear the Crown Make History’. The event is organized by Surulere Local Government and has received endorsement from the state Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture. Mr Yusuf, represented by his Vice Chairman, Mr Muiz Dosunmu, encouraged young women to seize the opportunity presented by the pageant to showcase their talents, intellect, and cultural heritage.
The winner of the pageant will receive a cash prize of N1 million, an all-expense-paid trip to Transcorp Hilton in Abuja, and the honor of being the official ambassador representing Surulere at the Miss Lagos Pageant. The first runner-up will also receive N1 million, while the second runner-up will be awarded ?500,000.
Mr Yusuf emphasized that the pageant aims to celebrate Surulere’s cultural heritage while empowering young women to become ambassadors of leadership, excellence, and community development. He highlighted that the pageant goes beyond being a mere beauty contest, aiming to amplify the voices of young women and preserve cultural roots.
The pageant will feature activities such as mentorship sessions, cultural showcases, leadership development programs, and community engagement initiatives. These events will culminate in the grand finale, where one exceptional contestant will be crowned Miss Surulere Heritage 2026.
Mr Yusuf mentioned that 32 participants will be interviewed by the panel of judges during the selection process. Contestants will demonstrate their confidence, communication skills, and commitment to the cultural values of Surulere. The pageant serves as a platform for personal growth, confidence building, and community development.
