Ibadan: Two editors from the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Mr. Remi Koleoso and Mr. Suleiman Shehu, have been elected as Vice Chairman and Treasurer, respectively, of the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Oyo State Council. The election took place in Ibadan, Oyo, where new executive members were chosen to manage the chapel’s affairs for the next three years.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the election also saw Mr. Yinka Adeniran from The Nation Newspapers emerge as Chairman, and Mr. Rotimi Agboluaje from The Guardian Newspaper as Secretary. The Chairman of the Oyo State Council of NUJ, Mr. Akeem Abas, administered the oath of allegiance and office to the newly elected officers following the announcement of the results.
Mr. Abas expressed his satisfaction with the conduct of the election, noting it was the first he had overseen since taking office as Chairman of the Oyo NUJ. In his acceptance speech, Mr. Adeniran, speaking on behalf of the new executive, expressed gratitude to the chapel members for their confidence. He committed to running an inclusive and transparent administration, assuring members of a policy that would encourage collective input for the chapel’s growth.
Mr. Adeniran emphasized that the welfare of members will be a priority and stressed the importance of adhering to journalism ethics. He assured members that the executive will actively pursue improvements in their welfare and ensure discipline in both professional conduct and character among members. He reaffirmed the commitment to transparency and accountability.
Furthermore, Mr. Adeniran pledged that the new leadership would focus on promoting unity, discipline, and professionalism. The executive plans to engage with relevant stakeholders to enhance capacity development and training for members. He also stated that the leadership would remain open to constructive suggestions and criticisms aimed at repositioning the chapel for greater effectiveness.
