Abuja: Editorial staff members of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) celebrated a retired Director of Planning, Research, and Statistics, Mr. Kayode Olaitan, for his contributions to the agency’s growth and development. Olaitan retired in February after reaching the mandatory age of 60.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, he served as a director/managing director in the editorial department before his redeployment to the planning, research, and statistics department, where he retired as director. Staff members paid tribute to Olaitan, highlighting his passion, humility, and accommodating nature during his service.
The Editor-in-Chief, Mr. Mufutau Ojo, noted his over 20-year acquaintance with Olaitan, describing him as a model of integrity with an impeccable character. He wished Olaitan a prosperous new chapter in life. Mrs. Ese Williams, an Assistant Editor-in-Chief, shared her positive working relationship with Olaitan, appreciating him as a good mentor who encouraged her work.
Martha Agas, an editor, praised Olaitan’s mentorship and his ability to provide constructive criticism, which facilitated quality reporting. She appreciated his supervision of her fellowship projects. The Chairman of NUJ NAN Chapel, Mr. Collins Hammer, commended Olaitan’s gentle and calm demeanor, even in challenging situations, emphasizing his humility and God-fearing nature.
The Head of Features Desk, Mr. Chijioke Okoronkwo, expressed gratitude for Olaitan’s mentorship in feature writing, which helped him navigate newsroom pressures and improve his professional skills. Other journalists also lauded Olaitan’s virtues, noting his significant impact since joining the agency in 2007.
In response, Olaitan thanked his former colleagues and the editorial department leadership for the celebration. He emphasized the importance of continued communication and familial bonds within the agency, expressing his gratitude for their prayers and honor. Olaitan also wished his colleagues a healthy retirement in the future.
