Abuja: The National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS) has introduced a digital payment platform named ‘Paytogeda Campus Pay’ to curb fraud and promote transparency in the financial management of student unions across Nigeria. The launch took place on Thursday, marking a significant move towards a structured and technology-driven system for handling union funds.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, NAPS Senate President Mr. Festus Oyewumi stated that this initiative is aimed at restoring confidence in student leadership by ensuring that all dues, levies, and payments are processed through transparent and verifiable digital channels. The platform is expected to eliminate suspicion, discourage financial misconduct, and bolster the legitimacy of student leaders by making transactions traceable and financial reports easily accessible to stakeholders.
Mr. Oyewumi urged student union executives and senators from polytechnics nationwide to adopt this new technology, describing it as a reform that could institutionalize trust and improve governance. He emphasized the importance of embracing digital solutions in education, encouraging student leaders to integrate this platform into their campuses.
The platform is not limited to managing union dues and levies but also supports various campus transactions such as registration, departmental fees, event ticketing, airtime, data, and student purchases. Mr. Oyewumi expressed optimism that this initiative would address financial irregularities and foster a culture of accountability within tertiary institutions.
Mr. Odebode Aderogba, the Chief Executive Officer of Paytogeda, highlighted that the platform was developed to ensure visibility of contributions, traceability of transactions, and approval-based payouts. He noted that this solution would enhance trust, accountability, and operational efficiency within student bodies, indicating that the partnership with NAPS is part of a larger movement towards responsible financial governance.
The platform aims to empower students to gain collective and responsible control over their finances, strengthening governance, building credibility, and delivering tangible value to student communities.
