Zaria: The National Assembly has intensified efforts to facilitate the transition of graduates from military-focused schools into the Nigeria Defence Academy (NDA). This initiative aims to bolster the combat capabilities of the nation’s armed forces.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, this development is part of a broader strategy to strengthen the military. The four military-focused schools involved in this plan are the Nigeria Military School Zaria in Kaduna, the Air Force and Military School Jos in Plateau, Air Force Military School (Girls) Jos, and the Navy Military School Ikot-Ituen in Akwa Ibom.
Alhaji Alhassan Ado-Doguwa, representing Doguwa/Tudun-Wada Federal Constituency in Kano, revealed these plans during the 67th Passing Out Parade of the Nigeria Military School in Zaria. Ado-Doguwa mentioned that the bill to amend the Nigeria Defence Academy Act has already passed its second reading. The bill aims to enable a seamless transition for students from these military schools into the NDA, recognizing their foundational skills in arms handling and military training.
Furthermore, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, reaffirmed the army’s commitment to developing a well-educated and competent force through investment in education. Speaking at the ceremony, represented by Maj.-Gen. Mayirenso Saraso, Oluyede highlighted the opportunities available for graduates to pursue careers in the military, provided they meet the established criteria for NDA admission.
In a related interview, Mr. Ikenna Madueke, Chairman of the Parents and Instructors’ Association at NMS, called for increased budgetary allocations for military training to accommodate more cadets. He emphasized the dual academic and military training received by students, which prepares them for advanced military roles.
