Abuja: The newly inaugurated Chairman of Bwari Area Council, Mr. Joshua Ishaku, has pledged to prioritise grassroots development and improve the living conditions of residents across the council. Ishaku made the pledge during the handover of leadership from his predecessor, Mr. John Gabaya, at the council secretariat in Bwari, following his swearing-in by the FCT Minister, Mr. Nyesom Wike.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the event was organised by the council’s Transition Committee, led by the outgoing council secretary, Mr. Eli Kadanya. Ishaku stated that his administration would focus on people-centered policies aimed at addressing the developmental needs of communities within the area council. He expressed a commitment to bringing governance closer to the people and ensuring that every community feels the impact of government initiatives.
The chairman urged residents and well-wishers to support his administration and the outgoing chairman, Gabaya, who continues to pursue a political position in 2027. Ishaku noted that with Gabaya at the National Assembly representing Bwari North constituency, the council’s challenges would receive prompt attention at a higher level, aiding faster development.
Ishaku called on traditional rulers, community leaders, religious leaders, politicians, and security agents to maintain peaceful coexistence and work together for the community’s progress. He also pledged to maintain an open-door policy and engage regularly with residents through Town Hall meetings to identify and address their pressing needs.
Earlier, the outgoing chairman, Gabaya, expressed gratitude for the support he received during his seven years in office and urged the community to extend the same support to the new administration. He advised Ishaku to prepare for the challenges ahead with prayers and determination, emphasizing the importance of working with religious leaders for guidance.
Gabaya thanked the people for allowing him to serve and expressed confidence in the new leadership’s ability to advance the council. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Ishaku of the All Progressive Congress (APC) the winner of the Bwari Area Council Chairmanship election in February.
