Lagos: Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has called on corps members to contribute significantly to national transformation and unity for sustainable national development. The governor’s message was delivered during an event aimed at motivating young individuals embarking on their national service year.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the coordinator emphasized the importance of corps members serving with dedication, integrity, creativity, and resilience throughout their service. She also advised them to prioritize their safety by avoiding unauthorized travel and night journeys.
On the sidelines of the event, Ogunlende, who serves as the Chairman of the NYSC Governing Board in Lagos State, highlighted the importance of the orientation period for mental and physical preparation. He described the service year as a time for sacrifice and commitment, underlining its significance for both personal and national development.
Ogunlende also shared updates on the construction of the permanent NYSC Orientation Camp in Agbowa, Ikorodu, which will have the capacity to accommodate 10,000 corps members. He noted that this project is one of Governor Sanwo-Olu’s legacy initiatives, aiming to enhance the experience and facilities available for corps members.
Appearing in a Nigerian Red Cross uniform, Ogunlende encouraged young people to engage in volunteerism and community service, emphasizing its value to society. The event also featured Justice Ahmed Lawal, representing the Chief Judge of Lagos State, Justice Kazeem Alogba, who administered the oath of allegiance, formally inducting the corps members into national service.
