Katsina: GOALPrime Organisation Nigeria, an NGO, has enrolled 6,588 out-of-school children into informal learning centres in Musawa Local Government Area (LGA) of Katsina State. The initiative aims to provide educational opportunities to children who have been unable to attend formal schools.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the Country Director of the NGO, Prof. Christopher Chinedumuije, announced this during the distribution of learning materials to the children. He stated that the project is funded by the Education Cannot Wait (ECW) initiative and is implemented in collaboration with Save the Children International (SCI) and the Katsina State Government. The project, which started in October 2024, also includes selected local government areas in Zamfara and Kaduna States.
Prof. Chinedumuije outlined the project’s objective to transition children into formal schooling after three months of informal education. The project also provides psychosocial support, hygiene kits for the children, and instructional materials for teachers. Learning materials are to be distributed to approximately 7,000 pupils in selected formal schools. The NGO has identified 15,371 learners in formal schools and selected 12 schools for intervention.
The organisation has established 32 alternative learning centres and created child-friendly spaces for adolescents. Additionally, the project includes the formation of a Community-Based Child Protection Committee (CBCPC), two Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) committees, and positive parenting classes to enhance family support systems. The overarching goal of the project is to support children affected by insecurity or flooding, ensuring their continued access to education.
The Sarkin Musawa, Alhaji Sagir Abdullahi-Inde, represented by his secretary, Malam Safyanu Mani, praised the NGO for its efforts and assured the community’s full support for the initiative.
