Abuja: The Nigerian Correctional Officers’ Wives Association (NICOWA) has strengthened digital education in its schools with the ground-breaking of a new school hall and state-of-the-art computer laboratory in Abuja. Speaking at the ceremony on Friday in Abuja, the President of NICOWA, Mrs. Victoria Nwakuche, said the project was a bold investment in the future of children under the association’s care.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the project comes at a crucial time when most examinations in Nigeria have transitioned to computer-based formats. Mrs. Nwakuche emphasized the importance of these facilities in ensuring that NICOWA students are equipped to thrive in an increasingly digital world. She highlighted that the ICT center will provide critical technological skills, while the new hall will facilitate examinations, academic activities, and school functions.
Mrs. Nwakuche expressed that the initiative aligns with NICOWA’s ongoing dedication to educational advancement, welfare support, and national development. She described the project as more than just a construction effort, labeling it a transformative step that will influence learning, innovation, and opportunities for generations to come. She extended her gratitude to the Controller-General of Corrections, Sylvester Nwakuche, Prince Arthur Eze, senior officials of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), as well as the Managing Director of Borstal Microfinance, and NICOWA/NICIWA members for their support.
In his remarks, the Controller-General reaffirmed the Service’s full backing for NICOWA as the association embarks on the construction of the new examination hall and computer laboratory. He praised the project as a legacy initiative by NICOWA’s leadership and expressed the NCoS’s enthusiasm to support the development of modern learning infrastructure within the correctional community. He assured continued support from the Service, emphasizing its commitment to promoting quality education.
Nwakuche further noted that the initiative is particularly meaningful as inmates in correctional facilities are now computer literate and taking ICT-compliant examinations. He stated that it is only fitting for the children of correctional officers to benefit from similar technological advancements.
