Suleja: Alhaji Isyaku Bawa-Naibi, Chairman of Suleja Local Government Council, has announced a ban on articulated vehicles, particularly fuel tankers, from traversing township roads as transit routes. This order aims to protect lives and properties in the area.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, this decision is detailed in a statement by Haruna Kaninko, Chief Press Secretary of Suleja Local Government Council. The chairman highlighted that the deteriorating condition of the Maje-Diko Road had led many vehicles to use alternative routes through the township, posing significant threats to the safety of residents and their properties.
Naibi stated that the ban is critical to avoiding potential dangers associated with the movement of petrol tankers and other large vehicles within the densely populated areas of Suleja. He stressed that safeguarding lives and properties is his administration’s top priority, and every necessary step will be taken to prevent avoidable accidents.
The chairman noted that continued use of township roads by these vehicles could cause significant damage, as the roads are not designed to handle such heavy loads. This would not only increase road maintenance costs but also create undue hardship for residents and motorists.
To ensure compliance with the directive, Naibi has approved the deployment of a special security enforcement team. A joint security patrol, including the Police and other relevant agencies, has been stationed at key entry points such as Kaduna Road Junction and Maje to prevent trailers and other heavy-duty vehicles from accessing township roads.
Naibi urged transport operators, drivers, and the public to cooperate with security personnel by adhering to the directive, emphasizing the importance of public safety and the protection of critical public infrastructure. He reaffirmed the council’s commitment to enforcing policies that enhance the safety, security, and well-being of all residents while preserving public assets for sustainable development.
