Nigeria: Nigeria’s Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Dangiwa, has held discussions with India’s Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs, Shri Manohar Lal, on enhancing partnerships in housing development and exploring collaborative strategies for urban development between Nigeria and India. This dialogue took place at the 12th edition of the World Urban Forum (WUF12) in Cairo, Egypt, marking a significant step towards bilateral cooperation in this sector.
According to Voice of Nigeria, the discussions between both countries covered key areas of potential cooperation, including Nigeria’s Renewed Hope Cities and Estates Programme, social housing schemes, building resilient and sustainable cities, slum upgrade and urban renewal, and addressing the challenge of informal settlements. The meeting also highlighted Nigeria’s plans to establish Building Materials Manufacturing Hubs to enhance local production capacity, supporting affordable housing and job creation in the country.
India’s experience in
urban housing, sustainable city development, and social housing programs offers valuable insights for Nigeria’s housing development journey. Minister Dangiwa underscored the importance of such cross-country collaboration, noting that shared experiences between Nigeria and India provide a foundation for knowledge exchange and innovative housing solutions. Under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Nigeria aims to leverage bilateral partnerships to address its housing and urban development challenges.
Expressing India’s support, Shri Manohar Lal emphasized the mutual benefits of this cooperation. He stated that India has learned how to improve urban housing and infrastructure and is willing to share its experiences with Nigeria. This partnership at WUF12 underscores Nigeria’s commitment to international cooperation, aiming to drive the Renewed Hope Agenda for housing and urban development.
