Abuja: The Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy has announced a partnership with the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) aimed at advancing digital transformation for sustainability and development in Nigeria. The initiative was highlighted during the ministry’s DevsInGovernment programme held on Friday in Abuja.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the event was organized by the ministry with sponsorship from KOICA and support from Galaxy Backbone. The theme was ‘Preparing Public Servants for the Digital Era’. Nadungu Gagare, the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, emphasized the need to move beyond mere discourse on technology towards mastering frameworks that benefit Nigerians, particularly civil servants. Represented by the ministry’s Director of ICT, Folashade Olojede, Gagare highlighted the importance of inclusive digital governance and the transformation of public services into data-driven innovation engines.
The permanent secretary stressed that the initiative is not just theoretical but aims to leverage Korea’s extensive global experience in digital governance. He underlined the commitment to ensuring services reach all Nigerians, including those in remote areas, and emphasized the importance of starting the year with a clear focus on making technology work for the populace.
The Senior Deputy Country Director of KOICA, Nigeria Office, Mr. Ki-Hyun Baik, explained that the training programme is a crucial part of KOICA’s e-Governance project in Nigeria. The programme is structured to build the capacity of government officials in planning, implementing, and managing digital systems nationwide. Baik noted that KOICA has already trained civil servants in various states and plans to extend its reach to Bauchi. He praised the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, for his role in organizing the DevsInGovernment programme, which is integral to shaping Nigeria’s digital future.
