Abuja: The Nigeria Export Promotion Council (NEPC) has reported that Nigeria exported products amounting to 663 million metric tonnes to 11 countries within the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) during the first half of 2025.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, this announcement was made by the Director-General of the NEPC, Mrs. Nonye Ayeni, during her presentation of the mid-year Non-Oil Export Performance report in Abuja. She highlighted that the current export figures represent an increase compared to the same period in 2024.
Ayeni further detailed that Nigeria exported 488 million metric tonnes of products valued at 83.538 million dollars to 21 African nations outside of ECOWAS. This represents an increase of 2.59 percent in total export value compared to 1.96 percent for the same period in the previous year. She emphasized that these figures underscore the potential of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) in enhancing intra-African trade and cited Nigeria’s active participation as evidence of the significant opportunities available to exporting companies and Small Medium Enterprises (SMEs).
The director-general expressed that these efforts are pivotal in boosting regional trade and spurring economic growth across Africa. She commended the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment for their dedication to establishing Nigeria as a central hub and a significant player in economic development.
Ayeni recognized the top 20 leading export companies, noting that Indorama Eleme Fertiliser and Chemical Ltd and Starlink Global and Ideal Ltd retained their positions as the leading firms, contributing 11.92 percent and 8.82 percent, respectively.
