Abuja: President Bola Tinubu has launched Africa’s largest identity database, declaring his administration’s commitment to providing a credible, secure, verifiable, and usable identity management system across Nigeria. President Tinubu made the declaration at the State House during the launch of the NINAUTH APP, a digital, mobile-based identity authentication application developed by the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC). The President asserted that such a system is fundamental to Nigeria’s developmental goals across the nation and the African continent.
According to Voice of Nigeria, President Tinubu emphasized that his administration is leveraging technology to enhance efficiency, transparency, and accountability in governance. In furtherance of this, he assured Nigerians that all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) will soon adopt the new app for staff and data verification. The President stated that the official launch of the NIMC NINAuth App marks a significant milestone in Nigeria’s digital public infrastructure journey, describing it as a key component of the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
President Tinubu explained that the app will place Nigeria on par with the world’s most technologically advanced nations and create an environment for seamless, secure, and inclusive access to services, opportunities, and benefits while maintaining the highest standards of data protection and national security. He highlighted the app’s role in simplifying access, reducing bureaucratic interference, and minimizing inefficiency and corruption.
The President noted that the NINAuth will provide a unified National Identity Database for every citizen and legal resident in Nigeria, enhancing social programs, electoral integrity, healthcare access, and equitable distribution of resources. He called on citizens to adopt the new application and commended NIMC for transforming identity management into a dynamic, technology-driven system.
Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, reiterated the importance of a secure national identity for national development, affirming that President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda demonstrates the capacity to solve problems and enhance national security through an improved identity management system. He emphasized that identity is the backbone of governance, national security, and service delivery.
The Director General of NIMC, Engr (Dr.) Abisoye Coker-Odusote, explained that the NINAuth app would eliminate multiple data possession by individuals while providing real-time data and information authentication for businesses and other services. She noted that NIMC has enrolled over 126 million individuals, with significant progress made in recent years.
