Nigeria: Nigeria is hosting its first-ever investors’ summit, the ‘Nigeria NOW! Global Investors Expo,’ aimed at highlighting credible investment opportunities and fostering partnerships across key sectors of the nation’s economy and development.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the expo, scheduled for November 19, is organized by EnergyNet Ltd. and supported by the Federal Ministry of Solid Minerals Development, with Minister Dele Alake serving as its patron. Alake emphasized at the official inauguration in Abuja that the event would connect credible projects with investors and encourage stronger cooperation between the public and private sectors.
Represented by Mr. Obadiah Nkom, Director-General of the Mining Cadastre Office, the minister noted that Nigeria seeks to expand its economic base and reduce reliance on limited revenue sources by creating opportunities across multiple sectors. The expo aligns with the Federal Government’s initiative to position Nigeria as a competitive global investment destination, particularly in the solid minerals sector.
Alake highlighted the need for patient capital, technical expertise, modern equipment, and partnerships that balance commercial interests with Nigeria’s development priorities. He noted that state governments would play a crucial role, given that mineral resources and investment projects are located within states and communities. State governments will have the opportunity to present bankable projects and investment partnerships to both local and international investors.
The minister assured that the Federal Government supports responsible investments capable of creating jobs, supporting local industries, transferring knowledge and technology, and contributing to national development. He pledged ongoing support for the event’s planning and coordination, emphasizing tangible outcomes beyond ceremonial participation.
Abdoulaye Sylla, EnergyNet Portfolio Manager and Head of Corporate Development, stated that the initiative would unite international partners, development finance institutions, technology providers, and project developers to support economic development across multiple sectors. He noted that Nigeria had not attracted foreign direct investment commensurate with its investment opportunities over the past 15 years and that the expo would serve as a national platform for showcasing investment prospects and accelerating projects.
Sylla highlighted the focus areas of energy, mining, infrastructure, and airports, providing opportunities for stakeholders to collaborate on investment projects. He also mentioned the Youth Energy Summit, aimed at engaging young Nigerians in economic and energy development, equipping them with skills to participate in the economy.
Damilola Balogun, Ambassador of the Youth Energy Summit (YES!) Nigeria, emphasized the importance of empowering young people with relevant skills and career opportunities to achieve Nigeria’s Energy Transition Plan target of net-zero emissions by 2060. The summit will facilitate opportunities for young Nigerians to engage with partners and stakeholders involved in the Nigeria NOW! investment programme.
