Abuja: The Nigerian Army announced that troops of Operation Peace Shield successfully rescued 10 kidnapped women during a special operation conducted in the early hours of Friday in Sanga Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, a credible source at Army Headquarters disclosed this information on Friday. The source detailed that the women were abducted from their farms at Unguwan Nungu on November 29, which led Sector 5 troops to initiate a sustained search-and-rescue mission.
The source explained that the troops intercepted the kidnappers around 6:40 a.m. on Friday as they attempted to collect ransom money from the victims’ relatives. The soldiers engaged the criminals with superior firepower, compelling them to abandon the captives and flee.
The operation resulted in the recovery of a fabricated AK-47 rifle, one round of 9mm ammunition, and ?1.6 million, identified as part of the ransom money. The rescued women have been debriefed and reunited with their families, while efforts continue to track down the fleeing kidnappers.
The source affirmed that the Nigerian Army remains committed to restoring peace and security in various parts of the country.
