Abuja: Nigerian Wrestling Referee Adebiyi Olusegun has successfully attained level 2 United World Wrestling (UWW) Referees Certification, the Nigerian Wrestling Federation announced. This marks a significant milestone in Olusegun’s career, reflecting the Federation’s commitment to enhancing the skills of Nigerian wrestling officials.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Olusegun completed the level 2 Referees certification Course during the 2026 African Wrestling Championships in Alexandria, Egypt. The Nigerian Wrestling Federation sponsored Olusegun as part of its strategy to strengthen the capacity of wrestling officials in Nigeria.
President of the Nigerian Wrestling Federation, Bashir Adeniyi, emphasized that Olusegun’s achievement aligns with the NWF Board’s vision to invest in referees, coaches, and other technical officials, alongside athletes. Adeniyi underscored the importance of expertise like Olusegun’s for the growth and development of wrestling in Nigeria.
“This achievement is a clear demonstration of our commitment to building a strong and sustainable wrestling system in Nigeria,” Adeniyi said. He added that the focus on developing referees and technical officials is crucial for the sport’s ongoing growth.
While congratulating Olusegun, Adeniyi encouraged him to continue striving for excellence. He expressed pride in Olusegun’s progress and urged other aspiring referees to seize development opportunities to represent Nigeria with distinction.
