Johannesburg: The Nigerian Union South Africa (NUSA) has urged Nigerian citizens residing in the country to remain law-abiding and unite against division, xenophobia, and social instability. Chief Ike Anyene, NUSA Grand Patron, made the appeal at the official inauguration of the Springs Chapter of the union, a statement issued on Sunday by George Omagbemi, his spokesman, said.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Anyene urged the newly inaugurated executives to lead with integrity, transparency, and accountability while prioritising the welfare of community members. He emphasized that unity remains the strongest weapon against division, xenophobia, and social instability. Anyene encouraged Nigerians in South Africa to continue building bridges of cooperation with local communities and institutions.
Anyene also commended the leadership of the organization for promoting unity, discipline, and responsible leadership within the Nigerian community in South Africa. Smart Nwobi, NUSA President-General, in a keynote address, described the inauguration as ‘a declaration of purpose,’ Omagbemi said. Nwobi stated that it aims at promoting peaceful coexistence, grassroots representation, and stronger engagement between Nigerians and South African communities.
He added that the chapter would serve as a platform for mediation, youth empowerment, humanitarian support, business networking, and community integration. The President-General urged Nigerians residing in the country to remain law-abiding, responsible, and united irrespective of tribal, religious, or political differences.
Omagbemi mentioned that the colourful and well-attended ceremony brought together Nigerian community leaders, South African stakeholders, traditional leaders, security agencies, youth representatives, and civil society members. He highlighted that the event marked another major step in the continued expansion of NUSA structures across South Africa, reinforcing the union’s commitment to unity, peace, community development, and responsible leadership among diaspora Nigerians.
The newly inaugurated executives include Samuel Onwo as President, Stephen Ekeh as Vice President, Lawrence Rufus as Secretary, Princess Bakare as Financial Secretary, Humphrey Onwo as Treasurer, and Francis Oluwadare as Assistant Secretary. Other members are Chidiebere Okafor, Public Relations Officer, alongside Kingsley Achugwo and Tolulope Sanni as Provosts.
