Abuja: The Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) is collaborating with the Nigerian Tourism Development Authority (NTDA) to showcase the tourism potential of the country during the 2026 World Public Relations Forum (WPRF).
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the President and Chairman of Council of NIPR, Dr. Ike Neliaku, shared this development when the Director-General of NTDA, Dr. Ola Awakan, and his team paid him a courtesy visit in Abuja. Neliaku emphasized the role of tourism as a soft power of influence and highlighted the Forum as an excellent platform for Nigeria to present its rich tourism assets. The event, expected to draw professionals from over 126 countries, will be held in Abuja, providing an opportunity for delegates to experience Nigerian hospitality.
Neliaku urged the new NTDA leadership to harness the country’s numerous tourist attractions with compelling narratives that add value to tourists. He also mentioned NIPR’s initiatives such as the Nigeria Reputation Management Group, the Reputation Summit, and the Nigeria Perception Index Survey, which aim to bolster the country’s reputation. Additionally, he noted their efforts in establishing the University of Public Relations and Leadership in Nasarawa State and plans for a Public Relations Museum in Nigeria.
He confirmed that the 2026 WPRF, organized by the Global Alliance, will take place in Abuja in November. The NIPR is eager to work with NTDA and provide substantial support for the Forum.
Dr. Awakan expressed that the collaboration is crucial for the country’s development and noted President Bola Tinubu’s focus on diversification. Awakan highlighted the need to promote Nigeria positively and recognized the role of NIPR in altering the negative perceptions of the country. Initiatives like the Naija Flavour Initiative and a planned Tourism Expo aim to showcase Nigeria’s identity and potential.
The News Agency of Nigeria further reports that during the meeting, Neliaku honored Awakan with the regalia of an NIPR ambassador, and Awakan reciprocated the gesture.
