Abuja: The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) and the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) have praised NNPC Retail Ltd. for the introduction of a smart station that integrates self-service fuelling. The commendations were made during the commissioning of the facility along Bill Clinton Drive, Airport Road, Abuja.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Mr Rabiu Umar, Authority Chief Executive of NMDPRA, and Kemi Nandap, Comptroller-General of NIS, highlighted the significance of the development. Umar, represented by Dr Mustapha Lamorde, emphasized that the 24-hour self-service mega smart station demonstrates the growing application of technology and efficiency in the downstream petroleum sector. The facility’s capabilities include self-service fuel dispensing, Electric Vehicle (EV) charging, Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) dispensing, automated car wash, and vehicle service, illustrating the industry’s evolution.
Umar stressed the importance of aligning technological advancement with safety, environmental stewardship, and a commitment to environmental protection. He congratulated NNPC Ltd., NNPC Retail, and its management for the milestone achievement, encouraging the replication of similar facilities across Nigeria.
Nandap, represented by Mr Saidu Daura, Deputy Comptroller-General of Finance and Accounts at NIS, pointed out that the initiative showcases vision and leadership by integrating EV charging facilities with traditional fuelling services. She remarked that the development aligns with global trends in energy transition, climate action, and smart mobility, representing a practical step toward promoting cleaner and sustainable economic growth.
Nandap noted that innovation and modern infrastructure are crucial for national security and economic prosperity. She highlighted the potential for investment, employment, skills transfer, and industrial growth through the adoption of emerging technologies like electric mobility. NIS remains committed to supporting government policies that promote innovation and sustainable development, emphasizing the need for secure borders, modern infrastructure, and sustainable development to advance national progress.
Describing the commissioning as more than just the opening of a service station, Nandap expressed confidence in Nigeria’s future and its ability to build a resilient, green, and technologically advanced nation.
