Nnewi: The Nigeria National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Foundation has donated a 1.5 Tesla Magnetic Resonance Imagery (MRI) system to the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital (NAUTH) in Nnewi, Anambra. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the high-tech medical diagnostics equipment was handed over to the management of the university at Nnewi on Friday.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Bayo Ojulari, the Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of NNPC Ltd., stated that the intervention would benefit thousands within Anambra and the entire Southeast by reducing the resources spent on seeking medical attention at distant locations. Ojulari, represented by Mrs. Emmanuella Orukwe, the Managing Director of the Foundation, urged stakeholders to protect the facility from neglect and ensure its sustainability for future generations. He emphasized that the donation was part of the company’s social investments, reflecting its commitment to providing and managing energy for Nigerians while meeting stakehold
ers’ expectations.
Ojulari highlighted that the installation and commissioning of the MRI machine marked a significant achievement for NNPC Limited in enhancing healthcare delivery in Nigeria. He noted that the MRI’s installation exemplifies their commitment to building enduring institutions and sustainable systems. This intervention aligns with NNPC’s belief that access to quality healthcare underpins human dignity, longevity, and economic productivity.
Mrs. Emmanuella Orukwe added that the intervention was a response to NAUTH’s request for an MRI system to support its ultramodern trauma and diagnostic center. She stated that the MRI machine and associated accessories were delivered to the hospital in December 2025, with installation and training completed in April this year. She noted that the NNPC areas of intervention include energy and environment, and during training, over 50 patients benefited from free MRI test services.
Prof Nnamdi Ugboaja, the Chief Medical Director of NAUTH, expressed that the e
vent symbolized hope, precision, and excellence in healthcare delivery for Anambra and Nigeria. He remarked that achieving the goal of ranking NAUTH among Nigeria’s top three health facilities by 2030 requires the generosity of corporate partners like NNPC. He acknowledged that previously, patients had to travel long distances for high-level diagnostic services at prohibitive costs, a burden now alleviated by the new MRI installation.
Prof Ugboaja stated that the NNPC Foundation’s contribution demonstrates that corporate social responsibility is crucial for institutions like NAUTH. He emphasized that the 1.5 Tesla MRI represents a significant advancement in their diagnostic capabilities, solidifying NAUTH’s position as a leader in healthcare delivery.
