Lagos: The NNPC Foundation has inaugurated and handed over three 100-bed capacity wards to the management of the National Orthopedic Hospital, Lagos (NOHIL). The ceremony marked a significant milestone in improving healthcare infrastructure within the region.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the newly completed project is poised to enhance patient care and operational readiness at NOHIL. At the inauguration event, Bashir Ojulari, the Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC Ltd., emphasized the organization’s commitment to societal impact beyond oil production. Represented by Mr. Segun Adedapo, Chief Financial Officer, Ojulari highlighted NNPC’s strategic dedication to national development through the NNPC Foundation.
Ojulari outlined NNPC’s ambition to make measurable strides in alignment with the Presidential mandate to prioritize production. This includes a notable achievement of 355,000 barrels per day production in Q4 2025 and significant investments in deep offshore operations, gas utilization, and commercialization on a global scale. The intervention at NOHIL, an 80-year-old facility, revitalizes critical sections to enhance patient care.
Mrs. Sophia Mbakwe, Executive Vice President of Business Services at NNPC Ltd., remarked on the positive impact of NNPC’s social interventions. She noted that NNPC’s initiatives are aimed at national development, with a focus on sustainable and impactful projects. The organization has historically contributed to infrastructural development and is poised to expand its efforts as a Limited Liability Company.
Mrs. Emmanuella Arukwe, Managing Director of NNPC Foundation Ltd/Gte, explained that the project aimed to address the deteriorated state of NOHIL’s facilities. The goal is to provide optimal patient care and a conducive environment for healthcare personnel. Arukwe highlighted NNPC Foundation’s commitment to delivering need-based interventions across various sectors, including healthcare, education, and economic empowerment.
Dr. Wakeel Lawal, Medical Director of NOHIL, expressed gratitude to NNPC Limited for the transformative project. He noted that the intervention not only rehabilitated the facility but also renewed hope for the future of healthcare at NOHIL. The wards now meet international standards, offering accessible and high-quality care to underserved Nigerians.
