Post: NNPP NEC Appoints Bala Mohammed as Acting National Chairman


Abuja: The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has ratified the appointment of Alhaji Bala Yunusa Mohammed as the Acting National Chairman. Mohammed’s appointment was confirmed at the party’s 11th NEC meeting held on Saturday in Abuja, following the resignation of the former National Chairman, Dr Ajuji Ahmed.



According to News Agency of Nigeria, the NEC also approved the results of primary elections conducted nationwide in preparation for the 2027 general elections. This included the appointment of acting state chairmen for Ogun, Delta, Nasarawa, and Cross River, aiming to strengthen the party’s organizational structures.



In his welcome address, the National Secretary of the NNPP, Mr Dipo Olayoku, highlighted that the meeting marked the culmination of the party’s preparations leading up to the 2027 elections. Olayoku explained that the party’s electoral process initiated from the ward, local government, and state levels, where members elected candidates to represent the NNPP.



Olayoku recalled that the party had ratified its congresses in December 2025. He noted that despite various challenges, the NNPP remained resilient and focused on its objectives. He emphasized that the meeting was convened in compliance with relevant provisions of the Electoral Act to ratify primary election outcomes nationwide.



He further stated that the party’s performance in the 2023 general elections had significantly elevated its profile, leading to the election of its first governor and federal lawmakers. Olayoku commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for its commitment to democratic principles, expressing confidence in its leadership.



The national secretary also mentioned that the party adopted the consensus method for its primaries and extended gratitude to state chairmen, executives, and members for their dedication and commitment. He acknowledged that some elected officials had departed the party due to political realignments but urged members to remain steadfast and focused on enhancing future electoral outcomes.
