Kano: The Nigeria’s Northern region has been assured of full power restoration as the region began to enjoy partial power fix. Nigeria’s Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu gave the assurance at the Government House Kano Northwest Nigeria, when he paid a visit to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf. He informed the Governor of the efforts of Nigerian government towards repairing the vandalized sections of the two power lines.
According to Voice of Nigeria, the Minister emphasized that engineers have been working tirelessly on the ground to achieve full power restoration. “I can assure you that our people are on the field working day and night for the partial restoration to become full restoration,” he stated. He noted that one of the vandalized lines from the Markudi-Bauchi road is operational, and the second line is expected to be fixed by Sunday.
Efforts are also ongoing to restore the main transmission line from Shiroro. Adelabu highlighted the challenges faced, explaining that the Shiroro-Mando-Kaduna line may take
about 14 days to repair due to the extensive damage caused by land mines, which destroyed several towers and require significant civil work.
The Power Minister apologized to the Northern region for the power blackout and addressed concerns about perceived regional discrimination by President Bola Tinubu’s administration. He clarified, “This is not the first time we are having these kinds of vandalization from the Shiroro axis, we had it before and fixed it before the consumers get to know.”
Adelabu urged all levels of government to collaborate in protecting power infrastructure across the country. He emphasized the importance of public reorientation against vandalism and power theft, stating, “We all have a role to play in protecting the power infrastructures including power consumers.”
The federal government is committed to partnering with states to develop alternative power sources. Adelabu encouraged state governments to implement alternative electricity solutions and urged electricity distribution comp
anies to improve distribution services while advising consumers to use electricity efficiently.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, represented by Chief of Staff Alhaji Shehu Wada Sagagi, briefed the Minister on the damages caused by the blackout in the region and highlighted Kano Government’s efforts in developing alternative power sources.
Abubakar Yusuf, Managing Director of Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO), expressed appreciation for the Minister’s visit and optimism for power restoration in Northern Nigeria.
