Post: NPFL: Remo Stars Kick Off Season Against Rivers United


Abeokuta: The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) returns for its 54th season, and the opening fixture takes place in Abeokuta, where reigning champions Remo Stars host last season’s runners-up, Rivers United. The match is scheduled for Friday, August 22, 2025, at the MKO Abiola Sports Arena with a kick-off time of 4 pm.



According to Voice of Nigeria, the referees appointed for this much-anticipated match include Bashir Salihu Fagge as the main referee, with Samuel Pwadutakam and Peter Bwamba serving as assistant referees. Shehu Abdullahi will be the fourth official for the match. The game marks the start of an exciting season for fans and teams alike, with both clubs eager to make a strong start.



The weekend will also feature several other matches across the country. On Sunday, August 24, 2025, Abia Warriors will face Kano Pillars at the Umuahia Township Stadium, while Wikki Tourists are set to play against Plateau United at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium in Bauchi. Other fixtures include Katsina United versus Warri Wolves, Rangers against Kun Khalifa FC, and Kwara United taking on Ikorodu City.



Further matches include El-Kanemi Warriors facing Bendel Insurance in Maiduguri, and Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) playing Bayelsa United, with live coverage on FRCN from the Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan. Barau FC will meet Enyimba at the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano, and the following Wednesday, Niger Tornadoes will take on Nasarawa United.
