Abuja: The President of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Ali Rabiu, has inaugurated a solar-powered borehole at the Local Education Authority Primary School, Gidan-Ajiya, Orozo, Abuja. Speaking at the event, Rabiu highlighted that the project, executed by the NSE Maitama Branch, would provide reliable access to clean water for pupils of the school and residents of the surrounding community. This initiative aims to address longstanding water challenges, improve hygiene, public health, and enhance the learning environment.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Rabiu emphasized that the intervention reflects the society’s commitment to grassroots development through practical engineering solutions. It aligns with the Community Engineering pillar of the NSE’s strategic agenda. He applauded the NSE Maitama Branch for their swift intervention, noting that the borehole was both a timely and impactful project. Rabiu underscored the role of engineers in directly improving lives and supporting government efforts in delivering essential infrastructure at the community level. He urged the school authorities and community leaders to take ownership of the facility by ensuring proper operation and maintenance, as sustainability is key to the long-term success of such initiatives.
Also speaking at the event, the Chairman of NSE Maitama Branch, Thomas Itodo, expressed pride in hosting the first project commissioning of Rabiu’s administration. Itodo promised that more community-focused engineering interventions were already in the pipeline. He remarked that the commissioning is a symbolic start to the new NSE leadership’s engagement with communities, highlighting the society’s resolve to translate professional expertise into tangible social impact.
