Post: NSIA Reaffirms Commitment to Resilience, Sustainable Investments Amid Global Risks

Abuja: The Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority (NSIA) has reaffirmed its commitment to operational resilience and sustainable investment practices in response to an increasingly complex global risk environment. Ijeoma Taylaur, Chief Operating Officer, NSIA, highlighted this during a Media Engagement on its 2025 Earnings in Abuja on Thursday.

According to News Agency of Nigeria, Taylaur emphasized that rising geopolitical tensions, climate challenges, and economic uncertainties have necessitated a shift beyond traditional investment approaches. NSIA’s strategy is built on three core pillars: enterprise risk management, digital transformation through artificial intelligence, and the integration of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles.

She outlined that the authority has implemented a proactive risk management framework designed to identify, assess, and mitigate risks before they manifest. “This framework operates across three levels, including investment teams, risk management units, and internal oversight systems,” Taylaur explained.

The diversification across multiple asset classes and currencies, she noted, has enabled the authority to maintain stability despite global market fluctuations. On the digital transformation front, Taylaur shared that NSIA has modernized its operations significantly, transitioning to near paperless systems while enhancing data analytics capabilities for real-time decision-making. “Artificial intelligence and digitalization are no longer optional. They are critical to ensuring agility, efficiency, and informed investment decisions,” she stated.

In terms of sustainability efforts, Taylaur highlighted the embedding of ESG principles across all investment processes to ensure long-term value creation and responsible investing. She listed several achievements, such as high global rankings in governance and transparency, recognition as a leading sovereign wealth fund, and early adoption of international sustainability standards.

Furthermore, the authority has expanded its portfolio in climate-related investments, including renewable energy projects and partnerships aimed at improving electrification. Taylaur mentioned that NSIA has adopted rigorous stress testing to prepare for potential economic shocks, drawing lessons from past global crises.

Taylaur concluded by stressing that resilience remains central to the authority’s mandate, enabling it to deliver consistent performance despite volatility. She reaffirmed NSIA’s commitment to strengthening its position as a trusted investment partner while contributing to Nigeria’s long-term economic development.
