Abuja: A group in Enugu State, Nwobi Political Dynasty, has reaffirmed its support for a federal lawmaker, Rep. Anayo Onwuegbu, who represents Aninri, Awgu, and Oji-River Federal Constituency of Enugu State. The group issued a statement decrying what it described as ‘unfounded and mischievous’ voice notes and publications aimed at discrediting Onwuegbu.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the statement was released by the group’s spokesman, Joe Udefi, urging residents of Awgu to be cautious of individuals referred to as ‘wolves in sheep’s clothing’ and ‘political attention seekers.’ The group emphasized that while it would typically ignore such claims, the need to refute them arose due to a perceived deliberate attempt to mislead the public.
The group expressed that these publications sought to undermine Onwuegbu’s quality representation and the integrity of the Nwobi political dynasty. It urged the public to dismiss these publications as misleading and unfounded.
Highlighting Onwuegbu’s achievements, the group described him as a leader of proven capacity, noting his consistent engagement with the Federal Government on infrastructural issues in Awgu. Such engagements have reportedly resulted in tangible projects, including the rejuvenation of Achi Hospital and the construction of classroom blocks at Boys Secondary School, Awgu, among other initiatives.
The statement also mentioned that Onwuegbu had awarded scholarships to students pursuing NCE and PGDE programs. The group expressed bewilderment over attempts to tarnish the reputation of a public servant committed to serving the people of Greater Awgu.
The group cautioned those it termed ‘attention seekers’ to focus their efforts on more productive activities and warned of potential legal action against individuals involved in spreading such publications if they do not desist from these actions.
