Post: NYSC Condemns Assault on Female Corps Member in Anambra

Abuja: The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has condemned the reported assault on a female Corps Member, Edema Elohor Jennifer, in Oba, Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State, Southeast Nigeria. This incident has sparked a wave of concern regarding the safety of Corps Members across the nation.

According to Voice of Nigeria, the incident occurred when operatives of the Anambra State Vigilante Group allegedly stormed a Corps Members Lodge in Oba. The operatives claimed the facility was being used for illegal activities, an allegation that remains unsubstantiated. During their operation, the operatives demanded that all occupants of the lodge submit themselves for a search, during which the visiting Corps Member was reportedly assaulted.

NYSC management stated that the matter has since been reported to the police, and investigations along with other necessary actions are already underway. The NYSC has reaffirmed its commitment to the welfare and safety of Corps Members throughout the country and warned that it would not condone any act that threatens the security of its members.

The NYSC also appealed to members of the public to support efforts aimed at ensuring the safety of Corps Members in their various places of primary assignment and host communities.
