Abuja: The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Peter Obi, on Wednesday appealed to all aspirants of the party to accept the outcomes of its recently concluded primary elections. He also called on them to close ranks in the interest of unity, discipline, and long-term political success.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Obi spoke at the party’s second National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Abuja, stating that internal competition was normal in a growing political movement. He warned that lingering grievances could weaken the party’s mission if not quickly resolved. Obi appealed to all aspirants who participated in the primaries to accept the results in good faith, emphasizing that in every democratic process, there will be winners and others who did not succeed.
Obi highlighted the party’s rapid transition from registration to congresses, conventions, and primaries within about 90 days, which he said required maturity from members. He urged members to focus on build
ing a credible alternative political platform capable of addressing Nigeria’s challenges, rather than being consumed by internal disputes.
In his remarks, the National Chairman of the NDC, Sen. Moses Cleopas, described the party’s emergence and organizational progress as extraordinary, attributing its survival and growth to divine guidance and collective sacrifice. He likened the party’s journey to ‘Noah’s Ark,’ describing it as a vessel of national rescue and renewal.
National Leader of the party, Sen. Seriake Dickson, praised the resilience of the NDC, noting that it had defied early predictions of collapse. He urged members to remain committed to reconciliation and stressed that those who did not succeed in the primaries should see it as part of a larger political journey.
The NEC meeting also resolved to deepen internal reforms, including the introduction of electronic voting for future congresses and primaries.
