Okene: Gov. Ahmed Ododo of Kogi has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to people-centred development. Ododo gave the assurance in Okene when the Aishat Omade’s People First Foundation donated a four-bedroom bungalow to an elderly woman, Salamatu Shaibu. Represented by the Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Taiye Abanika, the governor said that the foundation had demonstrated that leadership was best measured by actions that positively impacted lives.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the gesture was described by Gov. Ododo as more than just the presentation of a house, but as a true reflection of compassion, humanity, and a shared responsibility towards vulnerable members of society. He emphasized that access to decent shelter remained a fundamental human need, assuring that his administration would continue to implement policies and programmes aimed at providing safe and conducive living environments to residents.
He further stated that his administration remains committed to investments in housing, healthcare, education, infrastructure, agriculture, youth empowerment, and social protection programmes to enhance the quality of life for citizens.
Speaking at the event, the Ohi of Okene, Okatahi Mamman, commended the founder of the foundation for her generosity and concern for the welfare of the elderly. The traditional ruler highlighted that the gesture was a reminder that giving was driven by goodwill rather than wealth and urged other well-meaning individuals to support vulnerable persons in their communities.
Similarly, the Technical Adviser to the governor on Donor Agencies and Multilateral Partnerships, Ozomata Abdullahi, described the project as a model of community service capable of inspiring others to assist people in need. Zakari Otokiti, the member representing Okehi Constituency in the Kogi House of Assembly, echoed this sentiment, stating that the initiative had set a worthy example for public office holders and other stakeholders.
In her remarks, the founder of the foundation, Aishat Omade, shared that the project was inspired by an act of kindness she received from a stranger during a critical time in her life. She explained that the foundation was established to complement government efforts by supporting vulnerable individuals, restoring hope, and improving the lives of disadvantaged members of society. Omade also announced plans to construct more houses for indigent persons before the end of the year, calling on communities to embrace compassion by helping those in need.
