Abuja: Morocco’s Ambassador to Nigeria, Moha Tagma, highlighted the enduring friendship and cooperation between Morocco and Nigeria during a reception in Abuja, commemorating the Throne Day of the Kingdom of Morocco. The event marked the 27th anniversary of King Mohammed VI’s ascension to the throne.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, Ambassador Tagma emphasized the strong bilateral ties between the two nations, noting their commitment to initiatives that promote unity, peace, and prosperity across Africa. “From trade to culture, from security to agriculture, our partnership is destined to grow even stronger,” he stated. He reiterated Morocco’s dedication to working collaboratively with Nigeria under the leadership of King Mohammed VI and President Tinubu to foster a prosperous and integrated Africa.
The Ambassador also praised the Nigeria-Morocco African Atlantic Gas Pipeline (AAGP) project as a significant milestone in the two countries’ relationship. He described the project as a “pipeline of prosperity, integration, and dignity” for over 400 million people across 13 African nations. Initiated in 2016 by King Mohammed VI and the late President Muhammadu Buhari, and now supported by President Bola Tinubu, the AAGP embodies the shared vision of a connected and resilient Africa.
Ambassador Tagma highlighted the project’s potential to transform the Northwest African Atlantic region, comparing it to the European Union’s origins in the sharing of coal and steel. He asserted that the AAGP would unite numerous countries and position the West African coast at the center of global energy geopolitics.
The Throne Day celebration, according to the Ambassador, is a time for national unity and reflection on Morocco’s achievements under King Mohammed VI. It was also an occasion to celebrate the continued prosperity of Morocco and its people, as well as the enduring friendship between Morocco and Nigeria.
Ambassador Tagma reflected on Morocco’s transformation under the King’s leadership, noting the country’s emergence as a hub of stability, innovation, and sustainable development. He reaffirmed Morocco’s African identity and commitment to African development led by Africans. Moreover, King Mohammed VI’s focus on South-South cooperation and African integration remains a strategic priority for the kingdom.
The reception drew diverse attendees, including government officials, industry leaders, and members of the diplomatic community, all celebrating the strong ties between Morocco and Nigeria.
