Abeokuta: Dr Oladipupo Adebutu, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate for the 2027 Ogun governorship election, has unveiled his governance blueprint, prioritising security and local government autonomy. Adebutu told newsmen in Abeokuta on Monday that his administration would also prioritise agriculture, education and rural development.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the PDP governorship candidate said these were essential to delivering the dividends of democracy. He said security would top his administration’s agenda, stressing that no meaningful development could take place without the protection of lives and property. Adebutu emphasized the need to strengthen the state’s security architecture, noting that no society can develop without adequate and well-funded security measures.
Adebutu noted that he had personally assisted police formations with fuel, vehicle repairs and other logistics to enhance their operations. He added that he had invested about N20 million in solar-powered streetlights across several communities to improve public safety. He highlighted that well-lit streets discourage criminal activities and create safer environments for residents and businesses.
On local government administration, Adebutu called for full autonomy for councils to promote accountability and grassroots development. He stated that excessive state control had weakened local governments and reduced their ability to provide essential services. Empowering local councils, according to him, would strengthen institutions, improve infrastructure and enhance service delivery.
Adebutu also advocated greater investment in rural communities through improved roads, electricity, healthcare, education and security. He said providing basic amenities in rural areas would reduce rural-urban migration and promote balanced development. Adebutu explained that governance should be measured by its impact on citizens rather than personal recognition or political credit.
The governorship candidate affirmed that the PDP remained the only party that would take the masses to the promised land. Also speaking, a senatorial candidate of the party, Sen. Iyabo Obasanjo, said she joined the party because she believed it prioritised the welfare of the people. Obasanjo, who is the PDP senatorial candidate for Ogun Central, described respect, integrity and trust as essential qualities of leadership and governance. She expressed confidence in the PDP leadership in Ogun and pledged to support efforts towards the state’s development.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the deputy governorship candidate of the party, Lateefat Kolapo-Sowunmi, the state party chairman, Abayomi Tella, and other party leaders were present at the media parley.
