Abuja: The Governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun, has described the victory of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Saturday by-election in Remo Federal Constituency as a new chapter in the democratic journey of Ogun State. While congratulating the representative-elect, Princess Adesola Ayoola Elegbeji, on her victory, the Governor urged her to carry the mandate with humility and diligence.
According to Voice of Nigeria, Governor Abiodun, addressing newsmen at his residence in Iperu, Ikenne Local Government area, stated that the celebration of the victory reflects on the journey that heralded it. He explained that the victory resulted from dedication, commitment, teamwork, and trust in God. His team resolved from the onset that the election would showcase the strength of APC, the resilience of the people, and the clarity of their shared vision.
Governor Abiodun noted that the election is a testament to the popularity of his administration and the APC across the country, as well as a validation of Presi
dent Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 24 months in office. He praised Princess Elegbeji, describing her as competent and dedicated. He assured the constituency of quality representation at the Green Chamber, stating she would carry the voices of Ikenne, Sagamu, and Remo North to the national stage.
The Governor also reflected on the loss of the late Rt. Hon. Adewunmi Oriyomi Onanuga, acknowledging the overwhelming support for Princess Elegbeji as a source of solace. He emphasized the significance of the victory as a testament to the administration’s achievements across the state, highlighting its commitment to rapid development and human capital advancement.
Abiodun expressed gratitude to the people of Remo Federal Constituency for their resilience and political maturity. He celebrated the dual achievement of the by-election victory and the approval of the Gateway International Airport for commercial operations by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), marking it as a monumental achievement for the state.

Princess Elegbeji, in her remarks, thanked the Governor and party leaders for their support, reiterating her commitment to inclusive representation. She advocated for more inclusion of women in elective positions during the 2027 general elections. The APC candidate was declared the winner of the Sagamu/Ikenne/Remo/North Federal Constituency by-election, securing 41,237 votes against her closest rival from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who recorded 14,324 votes. The by-election followed the death of Adewunmi Onanuga, the then Deputy Chief Whip of the Federal House of Representatives.
